Title
Arena bomber ‘seen praying an hour before blast’
Date
8 September 2020
The BBC have changed the headline on the front page of the BBC website, following complaints from Centre for Media Monitoring and others.
The initial headline, stating that the arena bomber was ‘seen praying an hour before blast’, inaccurately linked the prayers to terrorism. Following a number of complaints about undue prominence and relevance of this detail in the headline, the headline was changed.
It is extremely important, especially when reporting on terrorism, that care is taken to not give a misleading impression of the facts.
Conclusion
Success.
