Blinkered Coverage? The Role of Stereotypes in Shaping the News
Our director Rizwana Hamid participated in an extremely well-received panel discussion at this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival in August. Sharing the stage with some big names in the Media industry, discussing the issue of stereotypes in news coverage (obviously a topic very close to the collective hearts of the CfMM team!).
Watch the event below to hear Rizwana speak about the stereotyping of Muslims as terrorists, and how the media covers crimes differently based on the perceived background of the perpetrator.
Please note: During the discussion, when speaking of incidents which occurred in December 2018, Rizwana erroneously referred to the incident at Manchester Victoria Station as “Manchester Arena.” We apologise for any confusion caused.
